• English for Academic Purposes Program (EAP) 

Students interested in enrolling in the EAP program must take the Saint Paul College Reading/English/EAP Assessment. This test assesses a student’s reading, listening and grammar ability. Students accepted for English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses must have a high school diploma or a GED. 

Moving from EAP to Your Major Program
After completing the Advanced level EAP courses, students will work with EAP Program advisors to choose the courses that best fit their needs and major requirements. Some students may enroll in the ENGL 1711-EAPP 0900 Learning Community (LCOM), others may take READ 0722: Reading 2 and ENGL 0922: Fundamentals of Writing 2, and some may begin a career or technical program.

The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) is the general education curriculum for the Minnesota State system. Choose MnTC courses according to the requirements listed on your Program Requirements Guide. Refer to the MnTC course list for each Goal Area:

The highest-level course in the EAP Program is part of a learning community (LCOM) called Writing Our Values: Comp 1 for English Learners. This learning community pairs ENGL 1711: Composition 1 with EAPP 0900: Academic Reading & Writing. In this learning community, assignments in EAPP 0900 support the work in ENGL 1711, giving students a chance to develop their language skills while earning transferable credit. The two courses in this learning community are co-requisites, which means you must register for both together.
